The Committee

Chairman: John McDonnell MP
Treasurer: Ian Grant
Contact: Helen Lowder

Objectives

The main aims and objectives of our organisation are to regenerate our local park and its facilities, which fell into decline due to lack of investment, maintenance, extensive vandalism and antisocial behaviour. In 1999 a group of residents and community groups came together to form the Barra Hall Community Development Committee which is fully to committed to encourage positive use and enjoyment of the park and its facilities and to build community capacity amongst the local residents and community groups through the development of a series of free events.

Our Work

  • We produce a booklet every year outlining our hugely successful summer programme of events.
  • We have renovated the Edwardian sunken rose garden.
  • We have refurbished the bandstand.
  • We have set up a partnership with the local authority to rebuild the open-air theatre.
  • We have secure funding to refurbish the toilet and relocate and replace some of the children's play equipment.
  • We carry out monthly inspections on the park to ensure that the maintenance standards are kept high.
  • We organise the annual spring clean of the park.
  • We have set up an afternoon social club for older people.
